The Santa Rosa United Aftershocks had a great showing in Las Vegas this past weekend. Seeing that the road ahead was tough Coach Salzmann made sure that the girls were prepared for some battles against some tough competition.

Baltimore Bay (Maryland) 0 SRU Aftershocks 2

The Aftershocks bounced out to an early lead and didn’t look back as they played a well balanced game combining aggressive offense with great defense and excellent goalkeeping. The Baltimore Bays came in with great credentials being the #1 team in Maryland but that didn’t intimidate the Aftershocks as they came out strong and pulled of a great win.

Wall SC Wombats (New Jersey) 1 SRU Aftershocks 3

Once again the Aftershocks came out quick and strong and the Wombats didn’t know what hit them. By the time the Wall SC recovered and began to play good ball the Aftershocks were already up 3-1.

International (Ohio) 2 SRU Aftershocks 2

This was a great game with some great plays. The International team was the #1 team in Northern Ohio and they showed why they were a top team in the Midwest. There was some great talent on both sides of the ball and International bounced out to a quick lead. Then the Aftershocks bounced back to tie only to have the International team go ahead on a great shot from about 40 yds. out for a score. Not to be outdone the Aftershocks put on a clinic in touches as they scored the 4th goal of the game to pull off a tie.

East Meadow Express (New York) 0 SRU Aftershocks 1

Another tight game against a great team. The Express came in with great credentials as the #4 ranked team in New York. The Aftershocks played a little flat in the first half and after a nice pep talk from Coach the ladies came out the second half putting some great plays together. Halfway thru the 2nd half off a corner kick K. Langer headed in the only score of the game.

Overall the Santa Rosa United Aftershocks had a successful weekend against some great competition. Thanks to the coaches and parents for all their help and cheering.

The Santa Rosa United Aftershocks had a tought weekend in Arizona playing four tough teams. They started out the tournament with a 2-0 loss against TSA Red from Arizona the #3 ranked team in Arizona. Then the Aftershocks bounced back in beating the Windy City Pride of Illinois 2-0. The following day they played Dos FC Red from Washington and lost a hard battle 2-0. The Aftershocks ended the weekend with a 1-1 to FC United Select from Illinois. Overall it was a great experience for all the girls battling against tough competition.

11/27/09 Beach FC vs SR United Aftershocks

The Aftershocks entered the San Diego Surf's Thanksgiving Tournament with a few bumps and bruises but in their first game against Long Beach's Beach FC they came out strong. After a few shots that were left wide K. Nestler took a shot from about 40 yards out that just passed the outreached hands of the goalkeeper. With that 1-0 lead the Aftershocks continued to push but to no avail. Then in the 2nd half with about 15 minutes left to play the Beach FC got a free kick from about 35 yards out which they headed in for the 1-1 tie which is how the game ended.

11/28/09

With rain coming down the tournament officials decided to have the teams go to penalty kicks to select a winner. The Aftershocks first went up against the Albion SC White and E. Sellner came up with a big save to give the Aftershocks the win.

The second penalty game was against the South Bay Valley Black and again E. Sellner came up with another big save to give the Aftershocks their second win of the tournament.

Semi Finals

In the semi finals on Sunday the Aftershocks went up against the Utah Avalanche Black. The Avalanche came out quick with the first goal of the match an it seemed that the Aftershocks had no answer to the 1st goal from the Avalanche. Then out of no where S. Tosti took a pass and poked it in past the goal keeper for the tie. With about 10 minutes left in the match L. Bustos took a pass and with the Avalanche defense backing up she took a 20 yard shot that slipped past the hands of the Avalanche goalkeeper to give the Aftershocks a 2-1 win and take them to the finals against the Long Beach Beach FC.

FINALS

Once again the Beach FC came to play a tough game and the Aftershocks played with them toe to toe. Then the Beach FC team got together a string of great passes and sure enough shot one in to give them a 1-0 lead. In the second half the Aftershocks came out with more force and Beach FC matched the force then with about 15 minutes left to play on a free kick S. Tosti took a shot from about 25 yards out which sailed right over the hands of the goal keeper into the net to tie the score. The game ended tie and went into golden goal overtime which also ended with the 1-1 tie and went into penalty kicks. Beach FC made 4 out of the 5 shots while the Aftershocks only made 3-5 and gave the championship to the Beach FC.

Overall the Aftershocks 3 great games and had 3 nail biting penalty kick situations and left San Diego with a 2nd place finish. Congratulations to the team and Coach Salzmann for a great tournament.
