2009 Mustang Stampede Champions Gold Division

The SRU Tremors were hungry for some wins prior to Mustang weekend and they knew that the Mustang Tournament would bring some tough competition but they had prepared for weeks and sure enough the Tremors showed up to play. The first game was against the Palo Alto Thunder and it was a huge game for the Tremors with some great passing and some better goals. Scores from J. Girman (3), A. Shields and E. Wright finished a good victory for the Tremors 5-1.
The second game was against a very good El Dorado team. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie with a goal by C. Wood but in the second half the Tremors pulled away 2 goals by J. Girman. El Dorado continued to put pressure but the Tremor defense with L. McMahon, N. Hakel, L. Horyk, K. Gonzalez and M. Bertolone stiffled any attempts by the Eclipse. Great game in goal by M. Klee. Tremors 3-1.
The third game pitted the Tremors against Mustang Blaze and the Tremors came out fast and pulled out a Tremors 4-0 win.
Quarter final game brought the Mustang United and the Tremors got on the board early and often with goals by G. Albavera, E. Wright (2), A. Shields and J. Girman finishing up the game with a Tremors 5-0 victory.
Semifinal game brought back the Palo Alto Thunder and they were ready for the Tremors. The Thunder stopped many early opportunities but finally G. Albavera broke thru and put the Tremors on the board first. K. Gonzalez and C. Wood finished up the scoring for the Tremors as the Thunder did manage 1 goal. The Tremor defense of N. Hakel, L. McMahon, L. Hodyk and M. Bertolone played hard and stopped many Thunder chances. M. Klee also blocked many shots and breakaways to limit the Thunder goals to 1. Tremors 3-1.
The Championship brought back the El Dorado Eclipse. The game was fierce, tough and aggressive but G. Albavera broke thru the defense first and put the Tremors on the board with a goal. J. Girman scored the next 2 goals and the defense limited the Eclipse to one goal. The game went back and forth for both teams with fouls on both sides due to the aggresive plays but when the final whistle blew the Tremors had pulled out another victory. M. Klee was huge in goal for the Tremors while the defense stopped the Eclipse’s fast forwards. Tremors 3-1.
It was a great tournament for the Tremors with some great offense, defense, goalkeeping, passing, shots and overall team play. The Tremors scored 23 goals while giving up 3. Congrats to the girls and special thanks to all the parents who made sure that our girls were hydrated and taken care of before and after the games. Also a huge thank you to Coach Martin for preparing the girls for the tournament and for his leadership.
