SRU Girls U-11 Earthquakes - NorCal State 2 Champions

The team achieved its second consecutive 3rd place NorCal State ranking with a hard fought 2-1 win over Pleasanton Rage to cap a successful season that saw them reach the Championship Match at all of the top 4 tournaments in the State:  Cal Cup, Mustang Stampede, Magic Cup, and Placer United Cup.

To get to the coveted NorCal State Cup spot the team had to beat San Juan Sprits on a golden goal in the quarterfinals.  In the semifinals against MVLA Avalanche the Earthquakes created some excellent scoring opportunities in a thrilling match, but were astonishingly unable to find the back of the net, and wound up losing on the 7th round of penalty kicks.  The disappointment of the PK’s set up their State 2 Final versus Pleasanton Rage where the Earthquakes started the game with a relentless attack.  After numerous close calls at the start of the match, including a long bomb off the crossbar, the Earthquakes finally went up 1-0 mid-way through the first half with a tough angled shot into the side netting.  Minutes later however, a lone Pleasanton counterattack broke through to level the score.

The Earthquakes continued their attacking ways in the second half, but were still seeking the breakthrough with only minutes left in regulation when the Earthquakes goalkeeper was pulled from goal to launch one of her signature long throw-ins close to the opponent’s goal.  Her long throw bounced through the whole defensive line before finding an Earthquake foot near the top of the 6 yard box for a quick redirect inside the far post that gave them the win.

Congratulations Earthquakes!!!
