This past weekend 56 of the best female soccer players from the ECNL’s Northwest Conference came to Trione Field to showcase their skills in front of US National Team and college coaches. The purpose of the weekend was for the girls to train and scrimmage with the best players from the conference’s eight elite clubs (Crossfire, DeAnza, Mustang, MVLA, Pleasanton, San Juan, Santa Rosa United and Washington Premier). The scouts will then pick 10-14 players from the Santa Rosa event and invite them to the ECNL National PDP later this year, where 100 girls from across the country (25 from each birth year 1994-1997) will participate.
Included in the Northwest ECNL PDP were 13 players from Santa Rosa United, including Alison King, Brianne Parsons, Isabelle Lilly, Madison Gonzalez, Samantha Zepponi, Brooklyn Varnadore, Mariah Meza, Hannah Diaz, Jackie Dutton, Katherine Woodrum, Mia Costa, Val Laforge and Darcy McFarlane. This group showed very well and we want to congratulate all of them for being invited and representing our soccer club.
Overall, the scouts were very impressed with the level of play and individual skill being displayed. The girls participated in a two-hour training session Saturday morning and followed it with games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
A special thanks to Trisha Ziemer, Ralph Montes and Josh Sterling for coaching and training throughout the weekend. Also, thanks to the college coaches, which included St. Mary’s, Cal, Stanford, UC Davis, Arizona, USF, Portland State and more.
